Editorial Review
Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. --Genevieve Williams

5 Listen to John Reardon and Myself..
Peter and Mr. Cranky definitely need their ears checked. To insult this album...which was on the top 40 list from 1983-1986 is just utterly pointless.I am 15 years of age...and more people at my school own this than Britney Spears' In The Zone CD. I love this album so much,I've reviewed it countless times..as you can see..both of the spotlight reviews are mine. So take it from me,You NEED this album. If you don't own it..you're living life without breathing at all. I think this is the very best of Pink Floyd. First you start of with the haunting heartbeat, then its a continual ride to the very end. I especially love how easily they blend the songs until you cant tell where one ends and the other begins (brain damage and eclipse). the blending speaks to me of a mind slipping into paranoia or insanity, because then everything blends-friends to enemies, enemies to friends. i think this album points out the very worst of humanity-as well our determination to live, perhaps one of our most admirable traits. to someone looking to start a rock n' roll collection, there is no doubt about it-you gotta start with Dark Side of the Moon.

5 There Is No Dark Side Of The Moon Really.
One of Pink Floyd's best albums (besides Meddle and The Wall) and a 15 year chart topper,Dark Side Of The Moon has stood the test of time. Found by teenagers in every generation since it was released in the 70s,this album creates a seperate listening experience from today's rap/hip hop influenced and hard rock music of today for a teenager. It encapsulates its decade better than perhaps any other artifact pop culture has spit out since that term was coined. Like a handful of other albums which includes the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Nirvana's Nevermind, it is the one album that its entire genre agrees upon as the pinnacle of the form. No one did operatic space rock better than Pink Floyd did on Dark Side of the Moon, and it seems safe to say that no one ever will. Its continuing popularity, it is dated, not so much by music technology hitting the three-decade mark, but by the age at which its message strikes so forcefully. It's been called the ultimate stoner's album, but it's really the ultimate alienated teen album. Some stalwart fans carry the torch for Dark Side far past the age at which they should drop it, but most rock fans of decent intelligence and sensitivity at least pass through a period of discovering and loving this record. Snobs of all stripes scoff at it, but there are plenty of reasons why the Floyd's masterpiece has such longevity, and plenty of reasons why it deserves the in-depth look that the Classic Albums documentary series now gives it. Track Reviews :1.Breathe/Speak To Me - The Intro to the masterpiece. Great Songs.2.On The Run - showed what you could do with soundmixers and synthesizers in the early 70s.. definitely great instrumental.3.Time - Great Song..has a nice message.4.The Great Gig In The Sky - one of the weaker songs on the album, just basically an instrumental with opera.5.Money - Pink Floyd add another stranger to the mix as in..a track that doesn't belong between the others. Great song and is heard on classic rock radio.6.Us

5 frustrated
i find it disgusting and pathetic that any human being can give a negative review about this album or any album that this band has put out. i am absolutely speechless that people can write bad reviews about something they know nothing about. they are one of if not the most influencial bands in history. when this album was released in 1973 nothing even compared to its magnificence and beauty, in my opinion nothing compares to it even today. i being 16 years old am in complete awe when i listen to this album. anyone who appreciates rock music should be ashamed of themselves if they havent heard this album.

5 One Of The Greatest Albums Of All Time
As many musicians have proved, you don't have to be stoned out of your mind to enjoy Pink Floyd's 1973 masterpiece "Dark Side Of The Moon, though it can't hurt. No matter what physical state you're in, you can always enjoy "Dark Side Of The Moon". "Dark Side Of The Moon" begins with the medley of "Speak To Me" and "Breathe", one of the greatest album openers ever made. Next comes the breathtaking instrumental "On The Run", filled with great synth effects. Next comes the eerie "Time", complete with sound effects that strengthen it. Following is "The Great Gig In The Sky", this is basically an instrumental, except for the insecent wailing throughout the song. The piano is very soft and pensive. However, my friend told me something kinda of sinister about this track. If you listen closely to this track, you can hear a strange voice aying, "if you hear this whisper, you are dying". But I didn't hear it. Next comes the classic "Money", the song that led the group into the Top 20. With its amazing sound effects (cash registers going off, clinking coins), tbis is probably the standout. "Us And Them" changes the mood a bit. It is softer and more peaceful than the other songs on the album. Great song. "Any Colour You Like" is a great instrumental, followed by "Brain Damage", a trippy number written about the group's founder. Closing the album is "Eclipse", which ends the same way that the first track begins, a haunting bass line imitating a heartbeat."Dark Side Of The Moon" will forever remain among the greatest albums ever made. The music is so innovative and original, it's unlikely anything like it will ever come out again. And don't listen to The Infidel, the latest incarnation of The Cranky Reviewer. He just spouts words through a computer to get attention. In reality, I bet he loves The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the other great classic rock bands he pans in his reviews, hates Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Kylie and Duran Duran, and supports Bush. Someone who doesn't do these sings isn't really a person. And go ahead, take a jab at me. I won't get insulted by your useless comments.

5 Pink Floyd's 1973 Masterpiece Sounds Better Than Ever!
Released in 1973, "Dark Side Of The Moon" is Pink Floyd's masterpice album. This psychedelic album features outstanding special effects throughout the album. From screams, voices laughing, clocks striking, coins being put into a slot machine, and various layers of synthesizers, this is a breathtaking album to listen to and somewhat errie as well. The album consists of slow songs that fade right into each other almost creating a medley. The hit "Money" was played on FM radio stations and even today still seems to be the most favorite track on this album. But songs such as "Time", "Us And Them", and "Brain Damage" are also excellent craftd songs. This newly remastered SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc)hybrid cd is playable not only on regular cd players, but also on Super Audio players in high resolution stereo as well as in 5.1 surround stereo that plays on SACD compatible dvd players. This new remastered version of "Dark Side Of The Moon" has to be heard to be believed as this version surpasses the older version in all respects. The sound is crisp and clear and I also detected certain sounds that were not in the original remastered version. Also, I noticed more bottom end and mid-range than the older version and the output level has also been increased as well. There's also an excellent 30 page booklet included which contains beautiful color photos as well as the lyrics to the songs. This release is a must have for all music lovers young and old. Highly Recommended.
