Editorial Review
This packed double-disc is the slim option for fans who find the Eagles' vaunted greatest hits sets too little and the boxed set too hefty. Hit singles large and medium are here, often ("One of These Nights," "Hotel California") still sounding definitive and even tough. Large helpings of favorite album cuts are also included, along with a taster from a promised 2004 Eagles studio reunion. Unfortunately, "Hole in the World," Don Henley's response to September 11, feels just as empty and entitled as "Get Over It," the band's previous state-of-the-union message (from which the newer song represents a philosophical 180-degree turn). But for those seeking an overview of this Southern California juggernaut's successes, as well as telling comments from band members--mostly Henley and Frey--in a well-designed booklet, Very Best will more than do. --Rickey Wright

4 VERY BEST OF EAGLES is an almost the best of the 70s.
The collection of EAGLES material found on this compilation is intense. If you do not own another CD by the EAGELS then without any hesitation, purchase this one. It'll provide you with a solid idea of the sound that dominated AM TOP 40 radio in mid seventies. Most real fans will already own the material (with the exception of HOLE IN THE WORLD).

5 Good Compilation
While all these songs are pretty good, it's hard for me not to say that this album is an absolute must-have. I didn't exist while the Eagles were at the height of their success, still, I guess this is still a good album to own. The Eagles are amazing, and this has to be one of their best! Most of the great songs are on here...so stop reading and buy this already!

5 Another Great Compilation From The Eagles
The Eagles began their mainstream career run in 1972. From there until their break-up in 1982, they continued releasing great albums and great singles for listeners to enjoy, including their most successful "Hotel California". Their success never stopped. Some may be surprised knowing that they lost the Grammy for Best New Artist of 1972 to America. However, the legendary music continues living more intensely. "The Very Best of The Eagles" is a great compilation album that presents fans new and old their successes. The variety of musical genres proves that The Eagles mastered music fluently: rock, pop, and country. Regardless which is accented most, the songs were always written beautifully. They speak to a variety of listeners. Every song has its own unique flavor that keeps listeners in joy. The song quality remains through the switching of lead singers. Their ballads remain beautiful, and their upbeat songs remain fun for dancing. This album compilation presents how they evolved as a band through their historical run, even through the occassional line-up change. The evolution proves to continue through two reunions: 1994 and 2003. Through these greatest hits, they recorded a new single specially for this album, the Grammy-nominated "Hole In the World". This is a great commemoration of the events in 9/11. It was written and performed beautifully. Don Henley sings the lyrics expressively."The Very Best of The Eagles" is a great album that will surely please many listeners. This is one of the few albums that contains all of The Eagles's greatest hits.

5 Brilliant Career Overview
One of the most succesful acts of the 1970s', The Eagles are the latest in aline of superstars from the same era to get their own 2 - disc greatest hits set, following Elton John and Fletwood Mac. And I think theirs is the best. Disc 1 features all of their big hits. You can do no wrong with a disc that contains "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", "Best Of My Love", "One Of These Nights", "Lyin' Eyes" and "Take It To The Limit". What sets this album apart from the other greatest hits albums I mentiond is that doesn't rely solely on hits singles. There are some excellent low - charting singles here: "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Tequila Sunrise", "Already Gone", "James Dean". In addition, there are some classic album tracks, like "Desperado, "Ol' 55", and the transcendent "Doolin- Dalton". And while other reviewers complain about the fact that "Hotel California" closes this disc, I think it's a great way to close it, since it leaves the fans craving for more.Disc 2 begins with 5 more songs from the "Hotel California" album. First, there's the havy - hittinghard rock top 15 hit "Life In The Fast Lane". Then comes the pretty "Wasted Time", the punk rocker "Victim Of Love", and Don Henley's haunting American - Indian opus "The Last Resort". Finally, there's the album's other number 1 single "New Kid In Town". This has always been one of my faorite. I love the message this song conveys: enjoy your time at the top, because gonna come and knock you right off. Their Christmas hit "Please Come Home For Christmas" is an expertise yuletide number sing with great, bluesy gusto by Don Henley. "Heartache Tonight" is a nice romp that was their last number 1 hit. It makes for a great singalong. "The Sad Cafe" is a majestic ballad. "I Can't Tell You Why" and "The Long Run" are my two favorite Eagles songs. Timothy B. Schmidt's vocals on this one send shivers down my spine. And the song itself sounds like a Motown number. "The Long Run" glides along a carfree melody and Mephis - style horn vamps. "In The City" and "Thos Shoes' are also really good. "Sven Bridges Road" is a great live number with nice a capella breaks. In 1994, The eagles got back together and scored two top 40 hits, the pretty "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and the hard rocker "Get Over It". Finally, there's the stirring "Hole In The World". While I'm probably gonn catch a lotta flack for this, I think this is such a great song.I suggest this cd. It is filled with timeless music that you will play for hours on end. Alao pick up "Desperado" and "Hotel California", their 2 masterpieces.

5 Great collection
Awful cover. I really hate that cover.Anyway, this is a really great compilation, bringing together 33 Eagles songs, and there is little reason to complain about the compilers' choices. (They should have included the beautiful "Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise", though, and chucked "Those Shoes".)All the Eagles' best-known songs are here, including all but one of their singles ("Outlaw Man" has been omitted), and several of the lesser-known album tracks are almost as good as platinum-selling hits like "Hotel California" and "New Kid In Town". "Doolin-Dalton" is a great western-style ballad with Don Henley and Glenn Frey trading off lines, "Victim Of Love" is a tough rocker, and "Already Gone" sees Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon doing the Allman Brothers thing with the twin lead guitars.I'm not convinced that this album is better than the original "Greatest Hits" and "Greatest Hits II" CDs, though, especially not if you're a casual fan and just want the best of the best. But if you're looking for a little more, "The Very Best Of The Eagles" is a fine choice, and the Eagles don't try to lure people who already own all of their original albums into buying this one as well by adding a couple of new tracks. Kudos for that.

5 Finally, all the hits in one package
Although it's unlikely this latest, greatest hits compilation is going to rival the sales of The Eagles previous two "best of" CD's ("Eagles:Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" has sold 28 million copies in America alone), this is nonetheless a must own for both casual and die-hard fans alike. The Eagles rightfully stand as one of the most influential acts of all time- five number one singles, Grammy awards, and one of the most successful comeback tours in history (1994's "Hell Freezes Over"). Did I mention an album of new material to come in 2004? "The Eagles:The Very Best Of" contains 33 of the band's most beloved hits. These songs have aged exceptionally well since 1972, when "Take It Easy" first aired on radio stations around the country. A nifty 48-page booklet supplied in the package offers original members Glenn Frey and Don Henley's analysis of every song found in the CD set, plus photos which had never been seen before. It is really quite comprehensive, though as a fan, I wouldn't have minded some opinions from longtime members Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt. Having seen The Eagles on the 2003 "Farewell I" tour, it's clear that they are every bit as important to the band as Frey and Henley. Disc 1 is the stronger of the two; the country-rock sound is much more evident in the early years. Songs like "Peaceful, Easy Feeling" and "Best Of My Love" seem so relaxed and effortless, yet they are bricks in the band's foundation. Though they have appeared on other greatest hits packages before, the sound has never been more crisp than here. The first disc closes with the classic "Hotel California", from the album of the same name which marked Joe Walsh's first full tour of duty with the band. It also signaled, for the most part, an end to the country-flavored sound and the beginning of a more pop-oriented style which would yield more hits and a larger fan base. Disc 2 is a bit uneven, although it does include "In The City", which was SORELY missed on 1982's "Greatest Hits Volume 2" collection. What keeps Disc 2 from equalling the brilliance of Disc 1 is the newer material: two average songs from the "Hell Freezes Over" CD, and a mediocre 2003 single, "Hole In The World", which I suppose was included on this package simply because it's the only new song they've got right now. Some limited edition CD's contain a bonus DVD of the "Hole In The World" video, plus a behind the scenes look at the "Farewell I" tour. The bottom line is, "Eagles:The Very Best Of" has all the hits found on the two previous hits CD's, plus thirteen more. Thanks to digital remastering, all the songs sound great. If you're looking for a definitive collection of The Eagles hits, this is for you.
