4 Missy is back!
Missy Elliot is back this year with her new effort "The Cookbook" alter what was a rather disappointment with her last 2003 album "This is Not a Test!". This new album has something the last one didn't have; new and different beats made by different producers, not only the same old Timbaland. Hot collaborations in this album include Mike Jones, American Idol winner Fantasia, the new princess of R&B Ciara, Fat Man Scoop, Slick Rick, and Mary J. Blidge.Ahead a detailed review of each song on this album:1)Intro-Joy - The intro is a really fun recipe of how to do an awesome album, a bit long though. The song starts of with a soft and breathy voice saying "Joy", this gets a bit repetitive in the song. The beat is awesome, its produced by old pal of Missy, TImabland and features Mike Jones who does a good job. (Rating: 7/10)2)Partytime - Good party track, you should put this at your party. The chorus is so infectious. The beat, again produced by Timbaland. Good track to dance too. Check it out. Not the best track but pretty close. (rating: 8/10)3)Irresistable Delicious - God what an awful track, its so slow, and Slick Rick doesn't make it any better. The beat is so not hot and boring. Bad track here. (Rating: 3/10)4)Loose Control - First single and already a Top 20 song. Awesome comeback song. So dancy and fresh. Hot cartoonish beat. The song features none other than Ciara and Fat Man Scoop (who already scored a hit earlier this year with Mariah Carey). At first I didn't feel this song but after a few more times of listening I became addicted to it! Best of all this track was produced by Missy! Favorite Track! (10/10)5)My Struggles - Hands Down one of the best in this album!!! Features Mary J. Blidge! Awesome beat, missy raps about her "struggles", stand out track for me! (9/10)6)Meltdown - Slow R&B, Hip Hop song, a bit repetitive. Missy keeps on talking all the song on how to "work that magic stick", 50 Cent anyone? (Rating: 7/10)7)On&On - Good track produced by the Neptunes, crazy beat. Good rapping. She released it as the first single with Loose Control on the video. Features Pharrel doing the chorus and ad libs. (8/10)8) We Run This - Most original beat in the album, sound like something from the 80's which is awesome cause it adds a mysterious vibe to the song. One of the best track. Really dancy too. Definitely one of the sand outs too. (9/10)9)Remember When - borinnggg....i have to admit I kinda don't like Missys slow songs...I enjoy her bangers and this isn't one of them. Booo for this! (3/10)10)My Man - Slow song featuring Fantasia Barrino, I found this song extremely ridiculous, the intro with Fantasia is the stupidiest thing ever made. Just because of the fact that Fantasia is in this song I despise it. (5/10)11)Cant Stop - Rich Harrison...WOW this guy has the hottest beats around...he sure is one of those new producers that will be remembered, the chorus is addicting, GREAT TRACK! (9/10)12)Teary Eyed- Gets me teary eyed...lol, theres something in the beat or in Missys voice that makes this song so unique...loves it! (8/10)13)Mommy - Great! Not much to say about this, a really bitchy song that should be a asingle...point. (8/10)14)Time and Time Again - Worst track, no comments, hate it, the chorus is decent though. (3/10)15)Bad Man - Excellent track to end this album!!! (7/10)In conclusion, this album doesn't live up to "Under Contruction" or any other of her first records but it is 10x better than This is not a test!. Yall have to make sure to check this album out! Im so glad missy is back! I give the album 4/5.

Slick Rick-great track, gotta love missy's english accent and blending with slick rickLose Control ft. FatMan Scoop and Ciara-great dance track, very missyMy Struggles ft. Grand Puba and Mary J. Blige-great track yet somewhat redundant beat, mary j. blige is great in this songMeltdown-great beat, yet lyrics and feel of the song is very similar to Pussycat from under constructionOn & On ft. Pharell- awesome missy track, should have been missy's lead singleWe Run This-missy's remake of the classic SugarHill Gang-Apache, could have been remade betterRemember When-very weak balladMy Man ft. 5 Awesome album
I just got this album yesterday and listened to it twice already. I've been listening to Missy every since Da Real World, and I have all her albums. Like others have said, this album is not as "far out there" as some of her previous works. While some tracks from previous albums have pushed her into new territory and really set her apart from her contemporaries, this album doesn't stretch the "Missy style" as much. Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing. While her last album, This is Not a Test, was filled with new funky beats (which by the way didn't sell so well), this album seems to focus less on making 15+ completely crazy beats, and instead aims to put out quality tracks that are enjoyable (although I can't really stand track 2 very much). There are still some hot beats on the album though which catch my attention. One thing I really love about this album is it's strong RnB portion. Tracks 3(partial), 6, 9, 12, and 15 are the RnB selections. I'm an RnB fan first, and a Hip-Hop fan second. So, I enjoy her mixture of the two styles. And, in true missy fashion, the RnB tracks aren't just raps with RnB hooks, but instead there are there own entities. Track 9, "Remember When," is one of my favorites. The beat is pretty laid back, and the vocals are sweet. I wish that Missy would put out a RnB album one of these days to be honest. If you aren't an RnB fan, then you probably won't care for these portions of the album as much. So, overall I give this album five stars. Missy's great talent is evident in this production. Although more mainstream than her past albums, it still stands out in the whole Hip-Hop/RnB genre as a model for making an album that isn't narrowly focused on a specific subject and isn't put together with a single specific musical approach.
